Though filled with joy and excitement during the festival, it is important to have a level of caution to avoid accidents and allow everyone to have a safe, enjoyable, and happy festival. A few simple safety measures can give you a bright, peaceful and accident-free Diwali!.

  • Always buy your firecrackers from licensed stores, and do not buy unofficial or illegal firecrackers.
  • Light the firecrackers outside in open space, away from any combustible or flammable place.
  • Always keep a bucket of water or sand close by, in case of emergency.
  • Never light a firecracker while holding it in your hand.
  • At no time should children be with you when lighting the firecrackers, let the adults light them.

  • Keep diyas and candles away from curtains, paper or decorations to a minimum of three feet.
  • Keep lamps on sturdy, non-flammable surfaces.

  • Protect the safety of the pet. Keep the pet indoors during fireworks, if possible, and away from loud sounds.

  • Clean up after firecrackers, and dispose of the contents of the firework safely to avoid harming anyone or the environment where the fireworks were ignited.
